The design
About the design
In-house design
Magic Carpet is a 130 ft (39.6 m) expedition-class superyacht design. With a low, layered profile and a squared-off bow, she balances presence and performance in a way few yachts of her size do.
This is an Azure Yacht Group in-house design. Full specifications, layout options and pricing are available on request. Contact us to develop it for your project.

How an aluminum yacht is built
Aluminum yachts are built from marine-grade aluminum plate and profiles that are cut and welded, so no moulds are needed and one-off hull shapes are practical. The steps below are typical for an aluminum build.
01 Brief & build specification
Confirm the design, layout, propulsion (diesel, hybrid or full electric), battery capacity and options, choose a classification society if required, and agree the build specification and delivery slot with the yard.
02 Engineering & production design
Naval architecture and structural engineering: plate thicknesses and framing, weights and stability, and systems layout. The 3D model is turned into cutting files for every plate and frame.
03 Plate cutting & hull framing
Aluminum plate and profiles are CNC-cut from the cutting files. Frames and bulkheads are set up on a building jig, often upside down, and the hull plating is fitted and welded over them.
04 Welding, deck & superstructure
The hull is turned upright, then the deck and superstructure are fitted and welded. Welds and structure are inspected, by the class surveyor where the yacht is classed.
05 Fairing, insulation & paint
Unlike a fiberglass hull, an aluminum hull has no gelcoat: it is faired with filler and finished with a multi-layer paint system. Sound and thermal insulation are fitted, and fittings are isolated to protect the aluminum from galvanic corrosion.
06 Systems & interior outfitting
Engines, electrical and hybrid-electric systems, plumbing, HVAC, navigation and AV, then interior joinery, upholstery and deck hardware.
07 Launch, sea trials & delivery
Commissioning, sea trials, final checks and handover with documentation and owner training.
Typical payment schedule (aluminum build)
- Contract signing 10%
- Start of plate cutting 15%
- Hull plated & turned 20%
- Superstructure welded, engines in 20%
- Launch & sea trials 20%
- Delivery & acceptance 15%
What moves the budget
- A one-off custom hull or an existing design
- Paint system and fairing finish
- Propulsion choice and battery capacity
- Interior finish and joinery specification
- Structural changes requested after engineering is approved
Typical steps for an aluminum build. The schedule, payment terms and specification are agreed with the yard for each project. This is not an offer or a quote.
